“Witnessing how just showing up with care and love, each painting unfolded into something tangibly beautiful, that I created from nothing, with my whole heart.”

FROM CAITLIN
I have been working as a music producer, singer and song writer for 20 years. I started painting early in my recovery from alcohol addiction and I just fell in love it. I started selling my work online fairly quickly which was very encouraging too. I had always written songs with a bottle of red wine and a packet of cigarettes by my side and although that had not been working out for me for a long time, I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to write without my two companions. What I realized was that the alcohol had been creating a distance between me and my heart, which was actually helpful in a way because I was carrying a whole tonne of trauma. When I removed alcohol, the trauma, grief, pain and shame came rushing to the surface and bottle necked, so that I couldn’t write anything without shutting down or falling apart. Painting gave me an abstract way to learn to meet and flow with creativity again. Meeting that blank canvas over and over was the most perfect metaphor for my life. Witnessing how just showing up with care and love, each painting unfolded into something tangibly beautiful, that I created from nothing, with my whole heart.
